Australians
are being encouraged to leave their passports at home and travel in their own
backyard to help the nations bushfire embattled tourism industry. Tourism
Australia has launched an impressive and heartfelt new Holiday Here This
Year campaign, urging locals to throw their support behind affected areas
by planning, booking and taking a domestic holiday. The
$20 million campaign is part of a nationwide push, promoting that Australia is
open for business and ready and eager to welcome visitors. It
comes as the tourism industry braces for a $4.5 billion hit by the end of the
year, with international and domestic bookings plunging by approximately 35 per
cent. Tourism
is the lifeblood of many communities around Australia and those communities are
hurting, Tourism Australia Managing Director Phillipa Harrison advised media. We
will recover, but in the interim were asking Australians to help out those
thousands of tourism businesses by holidaying at home, right now. Holidaying
here this year is a really simple, but incredibly effective way to help. The
Media Man Group, including Media Man Int and Media Man Australia did not hesitate
to help send the news far and wide as soon as this welcome updated from Tourism
Australia came through. It's a mate helping mate, Aussie helping Aussie. Australia
still has so many beautiful sights and experiences. The heartfelt and beautiful
theme has been well received by Australians and everyone the world over. For
