The
New South Wales Government says it will not release
a report it commissioned into James Packer's proposed
billion-dollar hotel and casino at Barangaroo.
The
Department of Premier and Cabinet asked consultants
Deloitte to assess Crown Limited's proposal.
The
consultants were asked to examine whether the assumptions
about the economic benefits were correct.
Crown
says the resort will boost the state's economy by
$ 440 million and the VIP-only casino will deliver
an extra $114 million in gaming tax.
The
acting premier Andrew Stoner says the government is
focused on transparency, but the report contains sensitive
information.
"There
is public interest in the matter and when the assessment
process is complete, that information will be made
public," he said.
"In
the meantime, we have some sensitive commercial information
that was 'cabinet in confidence' and that's why that
particular report has not been released."
