Some people just have a knack of choosing a demanding profession. In this case, Dave Batista, not satisfied with conquering professional wrestling aka "sports entertainment", has made a splash and enjoyed some solid success in traditional acting (not so much the stuntman type).

The man known formally as 'The Animal' in the then WWF, may be more aligned to the late, great, 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper ('They Live'), who was frequently complemented on his acting ability.

Batista, no stranger to news media, has been doing the rounds, red carpets and all, and took the opportunity to speak with the Tampa Bay Times.

He made it clear to the outlet that he didn't like being pigeon holed in with other pro wrestlers turned actors such as John Cena and The Rock. Wrestling and combat sports website Fightful.com covered the story in depth.

Batista's most famous role in movies to date is as 'Drax the Destroyer' (Guardians Of The Galaxy) - Marvel Studios. Other credits include Blade Runner 2049, Hotel Artemis and the upcoming Dune reboot.

He recently returned to the WWE and attacked former Evolution member Ric Flair, on the 70th birthday of the 'Nature Boy' no less. We do suspect its storyline driven, but none the less. Ric Flair's daughter, Charlotte, has dabbled into cross over media such as ESPN's 'The Body Issue', but no movies for Charlotte as yet - she will likely be in the main event of WrestleMania, which is a solid path in show business.

Speaking with the Tampa Bay Times, Batista said:

“Do not compare me to The Rock or John Cena. Everyone does it. Those guys are wrestlers who became movie stars. I’m ... something else. I was a wrestler. Now, I’m an actor. The Rock was, in a way, a movie star before he was even a movie star. There is something about him that’s really special. I’d never take that away from him. Would I consider him a great actor? F--- no."

He also mentioned that just being in films isn't what he's looking for which might be what he thinks The Rock and Cena are doing.

“I want good roles. I don’t care about Fast and Furious or Bumblebee. ... That’s not the kind of stardom I want. ... I want to be in Dune. I want to work with Denis Villeneuve. I want to work with Sam Mendes and Jodie Foster. I want to work with Academy Award winners. I’m proud to be a character actor. I want that respect and credibility and education.”

We long suspected Batista to be a man of strong principals and of his own truth. He's defied a few nay sayers who didn't believe he would enjoy the same success in Hollywood as he did in professional wrestling. 'The Animal' is well on his way to proving a lot of people very wrong.

The next movie scheduled for a Batista appearance will be the finale of the Avengers franchise, Avengers: Endgame which is due for release April.

Keep it real big man, and we look forward to your upcoming movies, as well as a rumoured appearance at WWE showcase event, WrestleMania.

Great to see you as a heel in pro wrestling again... just don't let too much of that spill into the movies - we hear your a great bloke.
