The surf was up and so was the tension between Bondi Boardriders and the “Bra Boys” on Saturday.

THE “Bra Boys” were too good in the water for the Bondi Boardriders on Saturday — and they gave them a lesson in trash-talk too.

The Bondi club travelled south for the first round of Bondi Boardriders Vs The World, an east-coast tour being filmed by Bondi Rescue creator Ben Davies.

“I know they’re doing Bondi versus The World, but they really should have started with an easier club,” said North Maroubra Surf Riders Club — “Bra Boys” — competitor Jesse Polock.

“As long as there was waves there’s no way I would expect them to beat the team we’ve got.”

Maroubra won the 10-member team event by 10 points.

The event was a chance for Davies and his film crew to get pilot footage to pitch to an international broadcaster interested in funding the full series.

“We got more than enough footage, some dynamite for the first episode,” Davies said.

“It was all in good fun ... but there was some pretty fiery stuff out of the water.”

Koby Abberton gives a young Zach Michaels some pointers before he heads into the water.
Davies will keep footage of any controversy from the day for the production room but social media provided a taste of it.

Polock tweeted at Bondi team captain and world number 85 Perth Standlick: “Poor @perthstandlick lost, HAHAHAHA sucked in bra ... deanclarke2035 sculling our cup bra boys 4 life.”

Maroubra surfer Monty Tait heads to the water for his leg of the tag-team event.

Polock kindly attached a video of a teammate skolling from the winner’s cup while Standlick watched on.

“The Maroubra guys were probably in a better head space,” Davies, a former Bondi member, said.

“They knew where to jump off the rocks and how to milk every wave.”

Producer Ben Davies was thrilled with the turnout, saying the crew gathered plenty of pilot footage.
