Motorsport
in Central Australia and the Barkly will be zooming
ahead with $4.45 million allocated for events and
infrastructure upgrades at key facilities across the
region in Budget 2015.
The
Red Centre is home to a huge community of motorsports
enthusiasts and my Government wants to make it easier
for them to access great facilities and fantastic
events in their own backyard, Chief Minister
Adam Giles said.
Motorsports
fans have a lot to look forward to in Budget 2015
with a multi-million dollar package of sports infrastructure
spending lined-up right across the Territory.
Central
Australian and Barkly motorsports investments include:
$1.85
million for Alice Springs Speedway and Go-karts for
infrastructure upgrades
$1 million for the Central Australia Drag Racing Association
to replace and extend their existing track
$100 000 for the expansion of the Alice Springs Inland
Dragway burnout pad.
$500 000 for the Tennant Creek Speedway towards a
new tower and club house, as well as facilities upgrades.
The Central Australian tourism industry and local
car lovers are also the big winners from a $1 million
investment in the Red CentreNATS a brand new
motorsports event for Alice Springs.
Theres
already a huge buzz around the inaugural Red CentreNATS
in September this year with 100 registrations six
months out, Mr Giles said.
It
will be an absolute cracker of an event, at a wonderful
time of year in Alice, with something for everyone
from judged competitions and an official Burnout Masters
Qualifier to Show and Shine.
Budget
2015 provides additional spending for sport, recreation
and cultural activities so all Territorians can enjoy
an active and healthy lifestyle.
The Government is ensuring all Territorians
have a chance to access quality motorsports facilities,
Sports Minister Gary Higgins said.
Our
investment in motorsports organisations, infrastructure
and events is an investment in a vibrant and growing
motorsport community in the Northern Territory.
