Disney Announces New Marvel Entertainment Films for 2016 and 2017...

You would likely be aware that Disney owns Marvel Entertainment these days. Yes, Disney calls the shots re studios et al.

In the United States, this year’s San Diego Comic Con will soon be upon us, and Disney is teasing us, intentional or not, and released some news about some upcoming features from Marvel Studios. This news was contained into a press release announcing the dates of some upcoming projects such as ‘Tomorrowland’, ‘Into The Woods’, and the upcoming Muppets sequel that was recently renamed ‘Muppets Most Wanted’, and it revealed a small portion of what is coming in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after ‘The Avengers 2’.

Oh, if your in 'Sin City' Sydney, Australia, you are likely aware that the Sydney leg of Supanova pop culture expo 2013 kicks off this Friday, and will be running all weekend. You may also have heard around the traps that Sydney based creative arts firm, Human Statue Bodyart aka Human Entertainment, is tipped to be doing bodypaint on quite a few fanboys and fangirls, so be watching out for photos and news stories on those also. For the record, Marvel Entertainment nor competitor, DC Comics (Warner Bros.) are not sponsors of Supanova, but they get lots of publicity anyway, being arguably the world's leading comic publishers... sorry if we upset Frank Miller Inc, POW Entertainment or anyone else.

According to popular online film magazine /Film, the news broke that Disney has set two dates in 2016 and 2017 for two currently unannounced Marvel films to be released. And to continue their trend of kicking off the summer movie season, both dates are for early May at this stage.

We’ve also announced dates for two UNTITLED MARVEL films (5/6/16 and 5/5/17), in line with Marvel’s successful tradition of opening films in early May, including the billion-dollar hits MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS and Marvel’s IRON MAN 3. We look forward to announcing more details about these films as well as the sequel to THE AVENGERS (opening 5/1/15) at a later date.

Now that Phase Two’s production is nearly entering it’s second half, it’s not surprising that Phase Three is starting to enter it’s developmental stages. In fact, we already know that Edgar Wright’s ‘Ant-Man’ is in the works and is set for a November 2015 release date, so now the question remains is what could be taking these newly announced dates.

One obvious guess is Doctor Strange, which has been confirmed by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige to be a part of Phase Three. The Sorcerer Supreme has been rumored to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years now, so it would be logical for one of those dates to be his.

Another candidate could be Black Panther. Stan Lee has stated repeatedly that a film starring the Wakandan warrior is on the books in some fashion, so he might be a good guess as well, especially after it’s already been established that his kingdom exists in the film universe because his country can be spotted on one of Tony Stark’s maps if you look closely.

Finally, another pick of Lee’s is the Inhumans. With ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ launching Marvel’s intergalactic side, it’s possible that they could continue spotlighting that aspect of their stable of characters by introducing Black Bolt, Medusa, and the rest of the children of the Terrigen Mist.

Stay turned to the Media Man network, Marvel and Comic-Con for more on these developing situations.
