The Walt Disney Company is one of the largest and most popular brands in the entertainment business, and the company opened the largest Disney Store in the world and the first in China on Wednesday.

According to Disney, the giant retail store was built in the Lujiazui area of Pudong, Shanghai, China, and features an astounding 5,000 square meters of shopping experiences and innovative products.

The opening of the first store in China was the latest example of the company’s expansion into the nation. Earlier in the week, Disney officials were on hand to see the topping of the Enchanted Storybook Castle at Shanghai Disney Resort.

An estimated 40 million tourists visit the Lujiazui area of China each year, and the Disney Store is sure to become a hit with close proximity to the family, business, cultural, entertainment, and tourism destinations of Shanghai.

The Walt Disney Company Asia-Pacific region president, Paul Candland, released a statement about the opening of the giant Disney Store in China:

“We couldn't be more delighted to open our first Disney Store in China, in Shanghai. Disney Store plays a critical role in how millions around the world experience our brand and allows kids, young adults, and families to have a uniquely fun and immersive experience while shopping for their favorite Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars products.”

The only thing more impressive than the size of the building is the interior. Designed by Disney's award-winning staff, the company has brought the most famous characters to life and tied them in with the local culture and surroundings.

Inside the building, the store features a 19-foot-tall Disney Magic Kingdom Castle, a Marvel area complete with a full-size Hulk, a character balloon area and so many other unique and special amenities to transport people into the land of Disney.

As a gesture of kindness for the opening of the store, the Walt Disney Company also made a $100,000 charitable donation to the Shanghai Charity Foundation, which supports children and their families in the Pudong District.
