John Cena is on board to star in the upcoming Duke Nukem movie.

Producer Andrew Form confirmed in an interview with CinemaBlend that, as of time of publication, the WWE superstar is set to star in the video game-inspired movie. "He is. Yes. We don't have a script yet, so that is confirmed at this point but if he reads the script and he doesn't like the script I'm sure there's ways that he could pull out, but right now he's our guy," Form said.

Confirmation of his involvement follows reports earlier this year that Cena was in talks for the role and the search for a writer would begin soon.

The professional wrestler and actor has appeared in a number of movies, including Daddy's Home, The Marine, and Trainwreck, Bumblebee and Blockers.

Form also addressed the importance of getting the tone of the film right. "How do you nail that tone in the way that Deadpool nailed the tone?" he told CinemaBlend. "I think we have to do that and if we don't get the tone right then we're not going to make the movie."

Cena is likely to also appear in a number of WWE Studios produced movies, some of which will be done in partnership with Warner Bros.

Cena is likely to have a more successful movie career than Hulk Hogan (Terry Bollea), but when it comes to professional wrestling aka 'sports entertainment', most fans #1 are a pick between Hogan and the late, great, Bruno Sammartino.

Another successful videogame that became a movie was Tomb Raider, which has seen Angelina Jolie playing the lead role in 90% of cases. Tomb Raider is the movie that made Jolie a household name across the globe.
