Casino chairman James Packer has pledged to create
more than 2000 jobs for indigenous Australians by
2021, after formally launching his gaming empire's
reconciliation action plan with Victorian Premier
Denis Napthine on Monday.
Packer
has an Australia wide plan, which appears to be focused
on Melbourne, Perth and Sydney (where he is campaigning
to have his own gambling brand for high rollers, VIP's,
world travellers and the like). Packer also has a
deal in place with the Penrith Panthers NRL club,
which would be part of the education supply chain
for Crown Limited.

Limited long along made everyone aware of its plan
to create long-term job opportunities for indigenous
Australians - it first signed up to the Australian
Employment Covenant - the indigenous employment initiative
founded by mining magnate Andrew Forrest - almost
five years ago. The branding for that initiative was
widely known as 'Generation One'.

Melbourne employs 35 Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islanders, with another 70 indigenous people employed
in Perth, out of about 14,400 staff.
''With
each new employee we make a difference, in their life,
their family's lives, in the community and our organisation,''
Mr Packer said on Monday.
''And
yes, while we have only really begun our journey,
we have learnt a great deal and made progress.''
Dr
Napthine said Crown's reconciliation plan was a great
opportunity for Aboriginal people to build self-respect,
self-esteem and to be role models within their communities.
''This
is a very positive and practical way forward towards
true reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander people,'' he said.
There
is currently a great deal of spotlight on James Packer
and his Crown Limited empire, and its a very safe
bet that Mr Packer and his world class team will be
doing everything to ensure that there employment plan
for Indigenous Australia and beyond is nothing but
a grand success.
