Action
man Jason Statham doesn't need an Oscar to cement
his success, because his pal Sylvester Stallone has
handed him something much better -- a role he wrote
for himself.
The
Brit, who teamed up with Stallone for the two "Expendables"
films, reveals his next movie, "Homefront,"
was one his hero had planned to write and star in.
"He
said, 'Listen, Jay, I'm not going to be able to do
this. I'd love for you to do this,' and it was one
of the greatest compliments I could ever get,"
Statham told Men's Fitness magazine. "Someone
who wrote something for himself, who is a real class
A filmmaker, class A screenwriter, just handed a project
over to me. That was a great moment in my career."
In
"Homefront," Statham will play a former
agent battling crooks in a small U.S. town. The film,
which Stallone adapted from a novel by Chuck Logan,
will also feature Wynona Ryder, Kate Bosworth and
James Franco.
