In
a story to file away for the future, former WWE wrestler/announcer
Jesse Ventura floated the idea of running for U.S.
president Friday in Minnesota, reports the Associated
Press.
Ventura,
speaking at Minnesota's Capitol, said the 2016 presidential
race is an "opportune time" for an independent
candidate to run for President because it will be
an open race. (Current U.S. president Barack Obama
cannot run again.)
"The
key to this next election I think will be a candidate
who doesn't belong to a political party and who has
the ability to rise above the mainstream and get the
press, which I've never had a problem doing,"
Ventura said.
Ventura
said he recently approached radio host Howard Stern
to be his running-mate. Ventura claimed Stern has
"expressed interest," according to the report.
Ventura
was elected governor of Minnesota in 1998 and held
the position from 1999 to 2003, opting not to run
for office again after his term expired.
