John Cena tweeted Sunday afternoon: "Finally home from a great European tour. I'm banged up, but I'm not going to miss Monday Night #Raw."

WWE champion John Cena suffered an ankle injury on the European Tour, according to WWE's website. WWE did not reveal the severity of the claimed injury.

WWE reported: "Cena sustained an injury during WWE's European tour. The WWE Champion injured his right Achilles tendon while battling Ryback."

WWE framed the injury - whether legitimate or not - as potentially affecting Cena's title defense against Ryback at the Extreme Rules PPV in May.

It sets up Cena to be a "vulnerable champion" and the title to be in jeopardy at Extreme Rules, creating doubts about the match outcome. This is especially necessary because most people believe Cena will have a long title reign and because Ryback has yet to win a "big match" during his six-month run that started in October.

Concerning Monday's Raw episode, Cena and Ryback are scheduled to face The Shield in a handicap match on the first show back from the European Tour. WWE did not address Cena's status for that match.
