Prime
Minister Tony Abbott will be promoting the potential
of Australia's 'great north' in Singapore.
Mr
Abbott will meet Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien
Loong over an Aussie-style barbecue on Sunday, part
of a series of events to commemorate the 50th anniversary
of Singapore's independence.
It's
one of several events where the prime minister will
be talking business.
WA
Premier Colin Barnett, Northern Territory Chief Minister
Adam Giles and Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk
will join Mr Abbott for a roundtable with investors
on the opportunities of northern Australia.
The
event follows the release of the government's Northern
Australia White Paper.
On
Monday, Mr Abbott will visit the Singapore Botanical
Gardens, where an orchid will be named in honour of
the relationship between both countries, rather than
him personally, local media reported.
Past
prime ministers Julia Gillard and Paul Keating are
among the foreign VIPs to have had orchids named after
them on official visits to the Lion City.
