Qantas
and American Airlines will expand services on trans-Pacific
routes between North America and Australia from next
month.
American
Airlines, the world's largest airline, will start
direct flights between Sydney and Los Angeles on December
19, after a gap of nearly two decades. Qantas in turn,
will start a direct flight between Sydney and San
Francisco.
Qantas
chief executive Alan Joyce said it was a good time
to expand the trans-Pacific route, with traffic from
US to Australia growing at nine per cent annually.
'With
the stronger US dollar and the bigger purchasing power,
we think the potential for growing that even further
is massive,' he said.
