Batman,
Superman, Wonder Woman and their villain combatants
are heading to Australia.
Warner
Bros, the Hollywood studio behind DC Comics' superhero
films, announced on Thursday that Sydney will be the
first city to host the worldwide tour of The Art of
the Brick: DC Comics exhibition.
Created
by artist Nathan Sawaya, the contemporary exhibition
will open at the Powerhouse Museum on November 21
and involve large-scale sculptures of DC Comics' 80-year
history of superheroes and villains made out of millions
of Lego bricks.
The
tour was announced at Comic-Con, the massive comic
book, anime and science-fiction convention underway
in San Diego.
Fans
at Comic-Con were given a behind-the-scenes glimpse
at some of the 100-plus sculptures to be showcased
in Sydney, including interpretations of Batman, Wonder
Woman and Superman.
Sawaya
will also create a new Lego Batmobile for the Sydney
exhibition.
'We
are thrilled to launch The Art of the Brick: DC Comics
at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, Australia, continuing
our history of working with premier cultural institutions
as part of our successful touring exhibition business,'
Brad Globe, president of Warner Bros consumer products,
said.
'We
know fans in Australia and around the world will enjoy
Nathan's artistic interpretations of DC Comics' famous
superheroes, super villains and more as they come
to life through Lego bricks.'
Sawaya
is excited to bring his work to Sydney.
'The
Powerhouse Museum is a legendary venue and the ideal
location to kick off the global tour,' Sawaya said.
'Fans
will have the opportunity to get up close and personal
with their favourite Super Heroes and Super-Villains
in an immersive environment customised for the art.'
