Merelyplayers Creative Arts Industry Night

PRESS RELEASE

Merelyplayers Creative Arts Industry Night on 4th Feb 2004

Merelyplayers will soon be showcasing some of Australia's most creative arts and musical talents.

The concept is to cross - pollinate the Australian arts and entertainment industry, by bringing together professionals from all creative disciplines for an extravaganza of performance, networking and sharing ideas.

On this magical and unique evening you will be presented with an artistic feast including performances by Niki Shepherd (Dance), followed by Sydney's newest music sensation, the eclectic and awe inspiring duo, Didjitalis, with their wildly original, uplifting music, using electronics, a didgeridoo and lots of funky beats.

Come along to the Arthouse Hotel to meet and mingle with our panel of creative industry experts, including;

Curator of The Australian National Playwrights Conference, Chris Mead
Improcorp Australia's Lyn Pierse
Central Casting, Fox Studio's, Tay O'Keefe
Actor, Director, Writer and co-ordinator of Short & Sweet 2004, Alex Broun
Tap Gallery curator, Leslie Dimmick

These luminaries will participate in a panel discussion chaired by NAFA and Choc Tops convenor, Tony Chu.

They will be discussing the question: 'Multiple Creative Disciplines: Australian Practitioners - Can they / do they work together? Why / Why Not? Can we co-join some of the brilliant and numerous art forms Australia has to offer, to benefit ourselves as artists, and our community as audiences?

This topic is particularly poignant in light of the current discussions and upheaval in the local arts scenes regarding the Free Trade Agreement with the US. Whatever your opinion on this controversial subject, all Australians agree that local talent and local shows deserve our time and energy, as audience members and as Arts supporters.

Merelyplayers, the brainchild of actor, director and producer Bryan Cutts [Living with the Law, Ghost Ship, Boy on the Roof, Just Once], has been established as a conduit through which all artists from different disciplines are encouraged to work together to create a more vibrant and enriched Australian Creative Industry.

Please note that this night is also the official launch of the major event: merelyplayers, 'Birth Death and Everything Between', (due to open at Sydney's famous TAP Gallery on the 18th March 2004); combining a visual art competition [with over 100 artworks on display] and a theatrical production featuring an interwoven pastiche of dramatic and comic monologues, including those of Kathy Lette, Helen Garner, Eric Idle of Monty Python fame, WH Auden and some dynamic original works by new Australian writers: Vince Melton, Tania Yuki, Brett Maverix and Alexia McIlroy-Kelly.

The evening will be concluded by a surprise musical excerpt to complete this fantastic program.

Merelyplayers promises to entertain and leave anyone involved or interested in the creative and artistic world, at the very least, with some food for thought, and thoroughly mesmerised by a variety of artistic talent.

All in the comfort of the Arthouse's Attic Bar, with snugly lounges and drinks readily available.

You will be guaranteed to rub shoulders with Sydney's creative scene; mingle with writers, directors, artists, musicians, dancers and many others.

Whether you have reached the pinnacle of your artistic career, or your journey has just begun, this is one of those very special nights that you need to attend.
