Sheva
is a 7-piece ('sheva' means the number 7) world music
ensemble that was born on a remote community in the
Galilee Mountains of northern Israel in 1997. Their
music, which promotes peace, harmony and healing for
all cultures, is firmly based on their founding inspiration
- the connectivity between the remote biblical landscapes
of northern Israel and the ancient Hebrew, Arabic
and tribal cultures that survived in the barren environs.
Their powerful message songs and chants source lyrics
from biblical texts, sufi zichers and innovative prayers
for peace and kinship to meld the four corners of
the earth into a more harmonious planet. Their live
shows create a vibrant, tangible sense of unity and
joy that moves hearts, minds and bodies in celebration.
Performing
on a variety of instruments derived from Middle Eastern,
Asian, African and European cultures, they create
an exotic yet universal sound. The instruments include
traditional Arabic percussion, African Djembe, Lira,
Sitar, Persian Santur, Ney, Zurna, Shanai, Drum set
& Sampler.
Shortly
after their inception, Sheva became a phenomenon in
the world music market in Israel, attracting thousands
to their spectacular shows. They built upon this success
with the release of their first two CD's - Celestial
Wedding and Day & Night. These best-selling recordings
of original music fusing the traditional sounds of
the Middle East with a contemporary feel, exposed
Sheva to a new audience, both in Israel and abroad.
In
1998 Sheva toured across the USA to critical and popular
acclaim. This led to an invitation by His Holiness
the Dalai Lama to the Sacred World Music Festival
and the resultant "Poetry of Peace - Spiritual
Music of the Middle East" collaboration. Performing
with Grammy nominee Jai Uttal, and Omar Faruk Tekbilek,
Sheva toured major arenas in New York, Los Angeles
and San Francisco, and recorded the musical prayer
for peace S.O.S - Sallam Om Shalom.
Sheva
has continued to build on their reputation for dazzling
live shows with continuous tours and engagements in
Israel and worldwide. 2002 was a particularly important
year as the group undertook their longest European
tour to date, performing in France, The Czech Republic,
Spain, and Switzerland, concluding with a spectacular
performance at the prestigious Strictly Mondial World
Music Festival in Marseilles, France. Another highlight
was their collaboration with Muslim and Christian
musicians in the Concert for Peace in Zurich's main
Cathedral. In 2003 Sheva has toured regularly on the
European continent to enthusiastic crowds of all ages,
with return appearances to Spain and The Czech Republic
in November.
In
summer 2002 Sheva appeared at the prestigious Sfinks
Festival in Belgium. They returned to the studios
to record their third CD of original music, entitled
Sheva.
From
late December through January they made their first
foray into Australia with a brief tour of the east
coast (Woodford Folk Festival, Queensland, Byron Bay,
Sydney, and Melbourne). Their deeply felt and musically
expressed message of peace and reconciliation for
all peoples created a rapturous reception from audiences
and national media led to a return invitation to the
Woodford Folk Festival, where they will ignite their
tri-state tour in late December 2003.
** Fromage a Trois is a trio lead by Yaron Hallis,
double ARIA Award winning founder of the dazzling
gypsy band Monsieur Camembert!!
A portion of this tour's proceeds will go towards
the Sulha Peace Projects.
