Tropfest 2004: Call for Entries
Calling all filmmakers! Sony Tropfest 2004 is now
inviting entries for the world's largest annual short
film festival.
Entries
close at 6.00pm, Thursday 15 January 2004, giving
filmmakers two months to shoot their masterpiece and
get it to Sony Tropfest.
All
short films submitted must be no longer than seven
minutes and include the Tropfest Signature Item (TSI)
to show that the film has been made specifically for
Sony Tropfest. The TSI for 2004 is "Hook!"
which may be interpreted in any way at all!

Tropfest 2004 entry forms and filmmaker info guides
are now available to download from the Sony Tropfest
website www.tropfest.com
The
best 16 films will screen in front of thousands of
people on Sunday February 22, 2004, as they are beamed
via satellite from Sydney to venues in Melbourne,
Hobart, Canberra, Brisbane and Perth. The showings
are followed by an awards ceremony.
The
panel of celebrity judges will include 2003 Sony Tropfest
winner Tim Bullock, who took out first prize with
his short film Buried. Tim's career has been dramatically
boosted since his record-breaking run as a 3-time
finalist and subsequent 2003 win.
"You
suddenly have all manner of meetings with agents,
film companies and producers who are interested in
where you're going and what you're up to. I've just
been offered a contract to do a film with Fox Searchlight
Pictures and I now have commercial representation
by Ridley Scott's RSA Films in the UK," says
Tim.
Sony
Tropfest films have been produced on budgets starting
anywhere from $50. Sony Tropfest Project Director
Serena Paull says it's all about having a go.
"With
digital technology so accessible these days, anyone
with a Handycam and PC can participate in Sony Tropfest.
We are thrilled to provide filmmakers with such a
unique platform from which to profile their talents
and are looking forward to another great batch of
films."
