Drew
McIntyre is on the warpath in the WWE. Nothing will stop him
by
Greg Tingle How's
things in your job or workplace punters? We're fine here at Media
Man, since I'm the founder and director - the Boss. But,
once upon a time I was extremely happy working for Optus Communications, as an
employee, then with a change of management, decreased pay and conditions, and
an overseas merger, and I was no longer 'Employee Of The Month' or 'Salesperson
Of The Month', but I was unofficially the 'Most Pissed Off Of The Month'... soon
after, it became time to leave, and I was welcomed with open arms by major competitor
- Telstra. That's the way things sometimes work my friends. Oh, two years later
and I was no longer totally happy or content again, so I started my own company,
and have predominantly happy with my "Job" ever since. It's easy to
see how AEW's Cody Rhodes enjoys
his work now isn't it. AEW's Chris Jericho appears content also - with his pay
and conditions, and freedom, and ability to express his creative genius - who
wouldn't be. Often things are about about perspective and job satisfaction. It's
not uncommon for people to become unhappy or unfulfilled in their job, hence the
popularity of taking on a side hustle, doubled with the popularity of the "We
Economy", even though job security can sometimes be questioned. The lifestyle
is pretty good for bosses of companies, especially when there's work - life balance,
but being a professional wrestler aka "sports entertainer" is not a
typical job, or lifestyle, and taking a beating, in and out of the ring - apparently
goes with the territory. Some WWE Superstars could also be mistaken for trolls,
with Becky Lynch unloading on many fellow wrestlers of late, no doubt blurring
the likes between fact and fiction. MMA - WWE cross over performer, Ronda Rousey,
also demonstrated skill in blurring likes and this helped turn her into a killer
heel - perhaps part of her grand plan to get some time away from the WWE, and
making fans care, at least more than is usually the case when fans are fickle,
as noted by Daniel Bryan - currently healing up after a well guarded secret injury. WWE
pro wrestling superstar Drew McIntyre is all to familiar with the ups and downs
of the professional wrestling industry and for a while, became used to doing the
JOB. Not now, he's a top contender for gold and in Mr. Vince McMahon's good books,
pretty much a prerequisite for success in the sports entertainment powerhouse.
Whether of not McIntyre is still the 'Chosen One' remains to be fully realised,
but for the moment, he can do no wrong. The Scotsman has taken the WWE roster
to task and has pointed out that some employees (independent contractors) have
become complacent, and he's taken it upon himself to help get rid of them! Pretty
ballsy stuff by all accounts. It's not quite a Bobby Heenan - Paul Orndorff "You're
Fired" scenario for performers who step out of line, but performers can be
kept off television or find ways not to appear at WWE events. In worst case scenarios
a court case could happen, which may or may not result in an out of court settlement.
Leaving the WWE doesn't always guarantee a (wrestling) job in other promotions
- AEW or other. It's a close knit industry, which can be a double edged sword
as a few have found out over the decades. Wrestling legend Bruiser Brody paid
the ultimate price for a not totally happy workplace on an overseas tour of Puerto
Rico, as documented on VICELAND's 'Dark
Side Of The Ring'. Long story. Job
satisfaction and perspective isn't necessarily a totally fresh viewpoint for WWE's
Drew McIntyre to express. Since returning to WWE in 2017 after being let go in
2014 and then reinventing and recharging himself on the independents and in TNA,
the 33 year old Scot has spoken often about how he didnt know how good he
had it his first time around with the worlds largest sports entertainment
aka pro wrestling outfit.
McIntyre has admitted to the press and coworkers that in retrospect he realizes
he wasnt giving his all to being a WWE Superstar. As a result, hes
not surprised he was let go. In fact, he sounds like he believes he deserved to
lose his dream job. McIntyre's
quips about trained monkey's (we're channeling Ronda Rousey) er performers on
the current roster who have lost perspective stem from those experiences.
And while hes talked about those before, with wrestlers not re-signing with
WWE, some talent publicly asking to be released from their contract and rumors
of others threatening to quit. The Scott told the Illinois State Journal-Register
on April 20: I
can look around now and see people who have lost perspective. Theyre perhaps
tweeting about how upset they are and their lack of opportunity instead of bettering
themselves or working harder outside of the ring. Theyre clearly not going
to the gym and they dont have that fire anymore, and I understand it because
I was there. And I can spot it because I was that guy... Its my job and
my characters job to get rid of those who dont necessarily have that
fire and remind me of my younger self. That
he refers to weeding out those whove lost that fire as both
his and his characters job blurs lines that are already blurred with Sasha
Banks situation being addressed in kayfabe, and Dean Ambroses exit
being promoted and weaved into WWE storylines in a major fashion. By
all accounts, at time of publication, this job satisfaction and complaint wrestlers
who have lost perspective, appears to be getting interwoven with storylines -
all part of the reality era, if that's what it is. So far wrestling great Jesse
'The Body' Ventura has been silent, or pretty quite, on this issue. Ventura once
lobbied for a wrestlers union, but this initiative of Ventura's was shut down.
Long story, but let's just say that not everyone in the WWE dressing room wanted
a union. So
readers, have you lost perspective in your job or career, or are you
totally satisfied, and motivated to do your best work? We're
sure the WWE would be pleased to get your input. You can even post your compliments
or grievances on the official WWE Facebook
(if they don't block you). Just kidding, I think. Remember, don't cross the boss,
or you might be shown the door, and of course wished well with your future endeavors
(if you're lucky). Tip: if you've leaving the WWE, best do it on good terms.

with the WWE over the decades. Even Patera nemesis Hulk
Hogan has been in and out of the good books on a number of occasions. It's
part of life and business. Everything is not always rosy all the time.
