WWE currently operates four brands, which are divisions of its roster where wrestlers are assigned to perform on specific weekly television shows, with some exceptions. These brands are part of the brand extension, a system that splits the roster to create distinct storylines and competition, implemented in 2002–2011 and relaunched in 2016. Here's an overview of the current WWE brands:

Raw: One of the two main roster brands, established on March 25, 2002. Wrestlers assigned to Raw primarily appear on Monday Night Raw. Less-utilized wrestlers may also appear on the supplementary show Main Event. Raw features major stars and hosts key championships like the World Heavyweight Championship and Women's World Championship.SmackDown: The other main roster brand, also established on March 25, 2002. Wrestlers perform on Friday Night

SmackDown. It’s home to the Undisputed WWE Championship (jointly held with the WWE Universal Championship) and the WWE Women's Championship. SmackDown has historically featured stars like John Cena, Eddie Guerrero, and The Undertaker.

NXT: Launched in 2010, NXT serves as WWE’s developmental brand, focusing on training wrestlers for potential main roster promotion. It’s based at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, and airs on NXT on the USA Network. NXT was briefly considered a third main roster brand from 2019 to 2021 but reverted to developmental status with the "NXT 2.0" reboot in 2021 (now simply NXT). It features championships like the NXT Championship and NXT Women's Championship.Evolve: Introduced in March 2025, Evolve is a newer developmental brand and a sister brand to NXT. It features trainees from the WWE Performance Center under the WWE NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) program and independent wrestlers from the WWE ID (Independent Development) program, aiming to prepare them for NXT. Evolve is also based at the Performance Center.

Historical Context
First Brand Split (2002–2011): Initiated due to an overcrowded roster after WWE acquired World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW). Raw and SmackDown were the primary brands, with ECW revived as a third brand from 2006 to 2010. The split ended in 2011 when all wrestlers could appear on any show

.Second Brand Split (2016–present): Relaunched on July 19, 2016, with Raw and SmackDown again as main brands and NXT as developmental. Other brands included NXT UK (2016–2022, planned relaunch as NXT Europe) and 205 Live (2016–2022, focused on cruiserweight wrestlers).WWE Draft: An annual event assigns wrestlers to brands, refreshing rosters. The most recent drafts and transfer windows (e.g., early 2025) have shuffled stars like Drew McIntyre to SmackDown and Bayley to Raw.Championships

Each brand has its own championships, with some shared across brands:
Raw: World Heavyweight Championship, Women's World Championship, Intercontinental Championship, Women's United States Championship, World Tag Team Championship.

SmackDown: Undisputed WWE Championship (WWE Championship + Universal Championship), WWE Women's Championship, United States Championship, WWE Tag Team Championship, Women's United States Championship.

NXT: NXT Championship, NXT Women's Championship, NXT North American Championship, NXT Women's North American Championship, NXT Tag Team Championship, NXT Heritage Cup.

Shared:

WWE Speed Championship (men), WWE Women's Speed Championship, and WWE Women's Tag Team Championship are contested across all brands

.Additional Notes

Wrestlers are generally exclusive to their brand’s shows but can appear on others for special events like pay-per-views, Saturday Night's Main Event, or cross-brand storylines (e.g., Mixed Match Challenge, Tribute to the Troops).NXT has a partnership with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), allowing occasional cross-promotional appearances.Evolve’s focus on early-stage trainees and indie talent aims to streamline WWE’s developmental pipeline.

Posts on X have occasionally referred to WWE’s brand structure, with some humorously suggesting All Elite Wrestling (AEW) as a “retirement home” brand, though this is not an official WWE brand.

For the latest roster details or specific wrestler assignments, you can check resources like WWE’s official site or fan databases such as TheSmackDownHotel.com. If you’d like more details on a specific brand, wrestler movements, or championship histories, let me know

Note On WWE Licensing Footage For Use

October 31, 2025

WWE is reportedly licensing some of their video content and earning a pretty penny off of it. A new report at Fightful Select notes that WWE is garnering high fees for making some of their footage available to license.

The report does not go into detail on which footage is being licensed, where or for how much. However, it goes on to cite sources in saying that the high revenue and making it available means that WWE may be getting more protective of their footage.

WWE has been increasingly focused raising prices to boost profit margins of late. It was reported this month that ticket prices for Raw and Smackdown have almost doubled since being bought by Endeavor and merged with the UFC into TKO.

It remains to be seen what ripple effects being “more protective” of footage may have. It’s always possible the company gets more aggressive with takedown requests or such to protect its content. However, that is not confirmed to have happened.

In vaguely related news, the report notes that WWE filmed last month at R-Truth’s release parties. R-Truth’s latest LP, The White Album, released earlier this year.

TKO will report their third quarter financial results on November 5th.

WWE announces acquisition of leading Mexican Lucha Libre promotion AAA

April 21, 2025 – WWE, part of TKO Group Holdings, has announced its acquisition of leading Mexican lucha libre promotion AAA in partnership with Mexico-based sports and entertainment holding company, Fillip.

The announcement was made in Las Vegas during the WrestleMania 41 Saturday Countdown show with WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, Fillip’s Chairman Alberto Fasja, AAA’s Marisela Peña and Dorian Roldán Peña, alongside talent including WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio and El Hijo Del Vikingo.

Additionally, Worlds Collide was announced to take place at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on Saturday, June 7 at 12pm PT featuring WWE Superstars alongside stars of AAA.

AAA was founded in 1992 by Antonio Peña and has been a family-operated business for more than 30 years, with some of the greatest talent in lucha libre history, including Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio and Penta, calling AAA home throughout their careers. The Peña family will continue to be involved in the next chapter of the AAA business alongside WWE and Fillip.

“AAA has a rich cultural heritage with some of the most passionate fans in the world and it’s an honor to work with the Peña family to embark on this journey,” said Levesque. “By bringing together WWE’s global capabilities and AAA’s amazing tradition, we look forward to an exciting future filled with new opportunities.”

“We look forward to partnering with WWE and TKO on this venture to secure the future of AAA for fans and to help take this business to the next level,” said Fillip Co-Founder and Co-CEO Hugo López-Velarde.

“AAA has been a family-operated promotion for over three decades and our trust could not be better placed than with one of the biggest sports entertainment businesses in the world,” said AAA General Manager Dorian Roldán Peña.

The transaction is subject to the satisfaction of customary closing conditions and is expected to close in Q3 2025.

This article is about the professional wrestling events staged by WWE from 2019 onwards. For the 1994 professional wrestling pay-per-view promoted by Asistencia Asesoría y Administración, see AAA When Worlds Collide. For the 1994 and 1996 professional wrestling live events promoted by Extreme Championship Wrestling, see ECW When Worlds Collide.

WWE Worlds Collide, also known as NXT Worlds Collide, is a professional wrestling event series produced by WWE, an American-based professional wrestling promotion. Established in 2019, the concept is interbrand competition between WWE's various brand divisions. Although the event has been held primarily for WWE's developmental territories, NXT and the former NXT UK, other brands have also been featured. The event was put on hiatus after the 2020 event but returned in 2022. After another three-year hiatus, the event will return in June 2025 and be held with Mexico's Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, which WWE acquired in April 2025.

The first event was held as a tournament in early 2019 and featured wrestlers from NXT, NXT UK, and the now-defunct 205 Live. In April that year, a four-episode streaming television series titled WWE Worlds Collide aired. In addition to the other three brands, this series also featured wrestlers from WWE's main roster brands, Raw and SmackDown. A second singular event was then held in 2020, but only featured wrestlers from NXT and NXT UK. The 2022 event was again held primarily for NXT and NXT UK, but also with a few wrestlers from Raw and SmackDown taking part. The 2025 event will be held between NXT and AAA. (Wikipedia)

The WWE Raw After WrestleMania 41, which took place on April 21, 2025, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, was a significant event, known for its fallout from WrestleMania 41 and setting the stage for new storylines. Below is a summary of the key results and highlights based on available information:

Key Results and Moments:

John Cena’s Heel Persona and Randy Orton Feud Kickoff:

John Cena, the new Undisputed WWE Champion after defeating Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41, opened the show with a heel persona, declaring himself “the greatest of all time” and “the last real champion.” He lambasted the crowd and Cody Rhodes, revealing a countdown of “36 dates” until his retirement. The segment ended with Randy Orton delivering an RKO to Cena, signaling the start of a renewed rivalry heading into WWE Backlash.Jey Uso’s World Heavyweight Championship Celebration:

Jey Uso, the new World Heavyweight Champion after defeating Gunther at WrestleMania 41, celebrated his victory. He was joined by Sami Zayn, who congratulated him, leading to a feel-good moment. Uso vowed to defend his title regularly, engaging the crowd with his signature “yeet” chant.Women’s Tag Team Championship Match:

Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez defeated Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria to regain the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. Post-match, Becky Lynch turned heel, attacking Lyra Valkyria and blaming her for the loss, setting up a potential feud for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship.IYO SKY vs. Stephanie Vaquer (Champion vs. Champion):

In a champion vs. champion match, Women’s World Champion IYO SKY faced Stephanie Vaquer, but the match ended in a disqualification. The bout was highlighted as the match of the night, though it left room for a future rematch due to the controversial finish. Rhea Ripley, Bianca Belair, Roxanne Perez, and Giulia were also noted as being involved in related segments, hinting at future storylines.Rusev’s Surprise Return:

Rusev (formerly Miro in AEW) made a shocking return during a segment involving The New Day and Alpha Academy. He interrupted a potential WWE Tag Team Championship match, attacking everyone in the ring to a massive crowd reaction, marking a significant moment for the Raw After Mania.Dominik Mysterio’s Intercontinental Title Defense:

Dominik Mysterio, the new Intercontinental Champion, defeated Penta in a title match, with interference from the returning JD McDonagh, securing the win for The Judgment Day. The match was solid but criticized for Penta taking the loss.Seth Rollins, Bron Breakker, and Paul Heyman Angle:

Seth Rollins, who won the Night 1 main event at WrestleMania 41 against Roman Reigns and CM Punk with Paul Heyman’s betrayal, was confronted by both Punk and Reigns. The segment escalated when Bron Breakker intervened, spearing Reigns and Punk, aligning with Rollins and Heyman as “Heyman guys.” This chaotic closing segment set up major storylines for the future.Gunther’s Meltdown:

Gunther, after losing the World Heavyweight Championship, snapped during a segment, choking out commentators Michael Cole and Pat McAfee, adding intensity to his post-WrestleMania arc.Other Notable Moments:

Karrion Kross continued to antagonize AJ Styles, hinting at a future feud. The New Day, as new World Tag Team Champions, teased a match with Alpha Academy, which was interrupted by Rusev’s return. The show was praised for its high energy, surprises, and setting up fresh storylines, though some felt it lacked in-ring action compared to promos and segments.Context and Significance:

The Raw After WrestleMania is traditionally one of WWE’s most anticipated shows, often featuring debuts, returns, and major storyline resets. The 2025 edition lived up to this reputation with Rusev’s return, Becky Lynch’s heel turn, and the establishment of new feuds like Cena vs. Orton and Rollins/Breakker vs. Reigns/Punk.The event was the first Raw to air live on Netflix, marking a new era for WWE’s broadcasting. The show was described as delivering “damn near everything you’d hope for” in a WrestleMania fallout episode, with a 9/10 rating from some sources, though it was noted for being light on wrestling matches.Sources:

"Really, really. You just said it. I'm the best of me. You want me to go back a year ago and be that guy. I don't know why you want to see him so bad, because I hated,, hated, the person so saw in the mirror and I'm never going back. You don't understand ... Had I taken those brass knux and I hit Logan Paul and I pinned him in the middle of the ring, it would have meant nothing. You want to be angry at the world, fine, great, don't take me down with you. In fact, so solve that problem yourself" AJ Styles

Netflix to Become New Home of WWE 'Raw' Beginning 2025

Netflix to Become New Home of WWE 'Raw' Beginning 2025

Long-Term Deal Brings Weekly Live Sports Entertainment to Netflix

STAMFORD, Conn., January 23, 2024 – WWE, part of TKO Group Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: TKO), and Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) today announced a long-term partnership that will bring WWE’s flagship weekly program – Raw – to the world’s leading entertainment service. This marks a major programming shift as Raw leaves linear television for the first time since its inception 31 years ago.

Beginning in January 2025, Netflix will be the exclusive new home of Raw in the U.S., Canada, U.K. and Latin America, among other territories, with additional countries and regions to be added over time. Likewise, as part of the agreement, Netflix will also become the home for all WWE shows and specials outside the U.S. as available, inclusive of Raw and WWE’s other weekly shows – SmackDown and NXT – as well as the company’s Premium Live Events, including WrestleMania, SummerSlam and Royal Rumble. WWE’s award-winning documentaries, original series and forthcoming projects will also be available on Netflix internationally beginning in 2025.

“This deal is transformative,” said Mark Shapiro, TKO President and COO. “It marries the can’t-miss WWE product with Netflix’s extraordinary global reach and locks in significant and predictable economics for many years. Our partnership fundamentally alters and strengthens the media landscape, dramatically expands the reach of WWE, and brings weekly live appointment viewing to Netflix.”

“We are excited to have WWE Raw, with its huge and passionate multigenerational fan base, on Netflix,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer, Bela Bajaria. “By combining our reach, recommendations, and fandom with WWE, we’ll be able to deliver more joy and value for their audiences and our members. Raw is the best of sports entertainment, blending great characters and storytelling with live action 52 weeks a year and we’re thrilled to be in this long-term partnership with WWE.”

“In its relatively short history, Netflix has engineered a phenomenal track record for storytelling,” said Nick Khan, WWE President. “We believe Netflix, as one of the world’s leading entertainment brands, is the ideal long-term home for Raw’s live, loyal, and ever-growing fan base."

With 1600 episodes to date, Raw is the most iconic show in sports entertainment. Since its debut in 1993, Raw has delivered action, compelling drama and unmatched athleticism – 52 weeks a year. Blending the best of scripted content with unpredictable live entertainment, the three-hour show has helped launch the careers of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Triple H, John Cena, Roman Reigns, Bianca Belair and Charlotte Flair.

The show is currently the No. 1 show on USA Network, where it brings in 17.5 million unique viewers over the course of the year. One of television’s best performing shows in the 18-49 advertising demographic, Raw trends on X 52 weeks a year while each new episode is airing. On social media, WWE has more than one billion followers across its platforms.

Announcement: During Geeked Week, Netflix teased this new project, hinting at a "return to Night City," which suggests it will be set in the same universe as "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners" and "Cyberpunk 2077."

Project Details: While it's confirmed to be set in the Cyberpunk universe, specifics like whether it will be a direct sequel or a new story entirely, akin to "Edgerunners" but with a different narrative or characters, remain undisclosed. There's been no confirmation if this is an "Edgerunners Season 2," though the nature of the announcement leaves room for speculation.

Reception and Context: The original "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners" series was well-received, contributing to a surge in interest back towards "Cyberpunk 2077." This positive reception might influence the new project's direction, aiming to leverage the existing fanbase while expanding the universe's lore.

News

Based on the information available up to September 19, 2024, here are some updates and insights regarding Netflix:

Pricing and Plans: Netflix offers several subscription tiers, with the most basic ad-supported plan starting at $6.99 per month, which allows streaming on two devices in 1080p. The ad-free plans include Standard for $15.49 per month, which also supports streaming on two devices at 1080p, and Premium for $22.99 per month, which ups the ante to four simultaneous streams at 4K resolution. There's also an option to add extra member slots for an additional cost.

Content Updates: Netflix continues to add new TV shows, movies, and original content regularly. Recent or upcoming releases as of September 2024 include a variety of genres from survival dramas to supernatural horror, indicating Netflix's broad content strategy remains intact.

Event and Announcements: There was an event around the time of inquiry where Netflix planned to reveal updates on several highly anticipated series such as "One Piece Season 2", "Wednesday Season 2", "Black Mirror Season 7", "Squid Game Season 2", "Stranger Things", a "Devil May Cry" anime, and "Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2". This event underscores Netflix's commitment to both continuing popular series and exploring new avenues like anime.

Cost Considerations: There's mention in discussions about how Netflix's cost has nearly doubled for some users, reflecting the ongoing debate on the value of streaming services versus their cost, which might influence subscriber behavior and expectations for content quality and quantity.

Subscription Model: Netflix emphasizes its month-to-month subscription model, which allows users to cancel anytime without long-term contracts or cancellation fees, providing flexibility which is often appreciated in the dynamic streaming market.

Given these points, Netflix in 2024 continues to evolve, focusing on a diverse content library, enhancing user experience through technology and personalization, while facing the usual industry challenges like pricing satisfaction and content competition. The platform's strategy appears to blend global appeal with niche interests, aiming to cater to a broad audience while also pushing the boundaries with original programming. (Grok)

Media Man Editors: Massive few months for Netflix. Also mark down Terminator: Zero, The Queen Of The Villains and Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson (November 2024). And don't forget WWE Raw hits Netflix in January 2025. And even the official WWE Vault YouTube channel has plugged Netflix, and specifically "Dump", while uploading some classic Japanese pro wrestling matches to their own platforms.

The big streamers have been cutting their original content output

Where did all the new shows go?

By Tom Jones

Seasons change

If you’ve been mindlessly scrolling through streaming services and have been feeling even less enthused than usual, you may not be entirely to blame: almost all major US streamers have been cutting their original TV output this year, according to new analysis from Variety.

From content monolith Netflix, which released 203 original shows in the first half of 2023 compared with 174 in H1 ‘24, to Disney+, which has halved its already-slim original TV library as it continues an apparent shift to quality over quantity, shrinkage has hit the streaming world hard. Indeed, of the 8 major streamers Variety studied from Luminate data, only Max and Peacock maintained their output level year over year.

All told, the number of original seasons fell 19% at the 8 streamers tracked.

For a while, it seemed we might float forever on an endless stream of new series, as companies competed to supply viewers who’d become accustomed to basking in the Golden Age of Television. However, the financial reality of producing content in an increasingly-competitive arena where margins are tight and churn rates are growing is becoming apparent.

It’ll be interesting to see how streamers’ original show libraries stack up in the latter half of this year compared to H2 2023, when original production tallies at some major players began to reflect the effects of the extended Hollywood strikes. (Credit: Chartr with Sherwood_

Shareholder Letter:

“our biggest update in a decade.”

“This new interface provides more visible title information at a glance — including synopsis, genre and ratings”

“Title previews are also larger and more dynamic, with more immersive trailers and bigger box art to make browsing easier. We’ve also simplified the navigation bar and moved it to the top of the page to create quicker, easier short cuts. And this new design includes My Netflix, which has everything members have saved or watched and was previously only available on mobile.”

“The challenge for so many of our competitors is that while they are investing heavily in premium content, it’s generating relatively small viewing on their streaming services and linear continues to decline”

“we believe our biggest opportunity is winning a larger share of the 80%+ of TV time (primarily linear and streaming) that neither Netflix nor YouTube has today.”

“This has driven industry leading penetration, engagement and retention for us, which limits the benefit to Netflix of bundling directly with other streamers”

More Intel:

Netflix shares were down about 1.5% in extended trading following the earnings release.

Japanese Female Pro-Wrestling Drama Series ‘The Queen of Villains’ Premieres September 19

How did one woman whip Japan into a frenzy? Launching on September 19, The Queen of Villains unveils the story of Dump Matsumoto, the most terrifying “heel” during the golden age of women’s pro wrestling in Japan. Spanning five episodes, the series explores the events that led to her rise decades ago.

From the ‘70s to the ‘80s, female pro-wrestling tag teams like “Beauty Pair” (Jackie Sato and Maki Ueda) and “Crush Gals” (Chigusa Nagayo and Lioness Asuka) became national icons. They captivated Japan not only by competing but also by singing and dancing in the ring. On the other side of this was Dump Matsumoto, the sworn rival of the “Crush Gals.” She made all of Japan her enemy, wreaking havoc in and outside of the ring. But once upon a time, young Dump Matsumoto was told she was too kind to be a villain. What events made her one of the most disliked figures in Japanese wrestling history?

Bringing these iconic female wrestlers to life is a talented cast chosen through auditions:

Multi-talented comedian Yuriyan Retriever portrays Dump Matsumoto.

Erika Karata (Desert of Namibia) plays Chigusa Nagayo, who starts as a failed wrestling trainee but eventually rises to stardom.

Ayame Goriki (Watashi ga Ore no Jinsei?!) portrays Lioness Asuka, known for being the most athletic and technical wrestler among her peers.

The renowned Osamu Suzuki developed, wrote, and produced the series. After hearing Matsumoto talk about the women’s pro wrestling era on his show, Suzuki was inspired to turn her story into a series and wrote the screenplay himself. Kazuya Shiraishi (The Devil’s Path, The Blood of Wolves, Lesson in Murder) serves as the supervising director, while Chigusa Nagayo herself led the actors’ physical training and presided over the wrestling scenes.

Watch the rise of these women to fame and the lessons their journeys hold today. The Queen of Villains premieres globally on September 19, only on Netflix.

#TheQueenofVillains

Logline: The Queen of Villains unveils the untold story of Dump Matsumoto, a professional wrestler who ignited a boom in women's wrestling in the 1980s with her cult-like following. Unlike the iconic “Crush Gals” duo, Chigusa Nagayo and Lioness Asuka, Matsumoto made her mark as the most famous heel. Dominating television screens, they became a cultural phenomenon, captivating Japan. (Credit: Netflix)

Media Man: Pumped for Dump. We used to bring in VHS tapes of Dump and her associates into Australia in the late 80s and early 90s. One of the greatest women pro wrestlers of all time. The killer heel and queen bee of the ring. Netflix makes a killer and smart move in delivering this gem to the global audience. This will more than satisfy the cast majority of pro wrestling and fight fans, and we as those who love the hero vs villain scenario - a base of storytelling. Shakespearean and a beautiful violence. This is pop culture history.
