This morning started off normal enough - that is for the Eastern period - in these times.

I was reciting my latest article about combat sports and wrestling featuring Hulk Hogan, Chris Jericho and Ken Shamrock) and the higher power (aka God) to my girlfriend, and then I realised we needed fresh eggs. Actually, any eggs from a chicken, hopefully fresh!

So, I madly started running around the eastern suburbs of Sydney trying to get fresh eggs. The usual haunts were not delivering on my wish, so I took a minor detour and ended up at the beautiful Bakehouse South Coogee.

I was already familiar with this beautiful cafe and bakehouse.  I was hanging out for a cappuccino and something hot to eat.  I lined up in the queue, observing the social distancing guidelines. I was guided into the cafe by the usher / meet and greet fellow and I noticed the beautiful spirit in the cafe, and I immediately ordered a hot cross bun, a toasted chicken and salad role and a cappuccino. I told them I had been coming into the cafe a fair bit lately as it was nearby to my base and also because I had been trying to buy certain supplies including eggs from some of the local shops for over a fortnight to no avail. Jeremy on staff overheard some of my conversation and said to the effect of, "So if I can find you about half a dozen eggs it would help you out"?, and I of course say, "Mate, it sure would". I paid for my coffee, roll and hot cross bun and waited outside in the social spaced congregation who were patiently waiting for their coffees also. We talked about these times, the beaches being closed, the beautiful coffee and cafe, and just adapting to the new current world situation. After a few minutes Jeremy from the cafe came out and delivered a carton of half a dozen eggs, which they didn't even charge me for.  I enthusiastically thanked Jeremy and the crew and continued chatting with patrons outside the cafe for a while and we all agreed about missing the water and beaches so much.

I've actually joined the petition to re-open Maroubra Beach, which includes with vast social distancing measures of course. Just wearing my surf and Hawaiian style shirts isn't quite cutting it for me at present, especially since I'm the go-to person for One Wave Is All It Takes at Maroubra Beach, and also a former member of the Bra Boys aka North Maroubra Surf Riders club. I also want to check up on the colourful Rubik's Cube and adjoining outlet, which I adopted under Randwick City Council's 'Adopt A Drain' initiative a couple of years ago. Did I also mention I'm missing surfing (and swimming).

Anyway, I believe the higher power was a catalyst for receiving half a dozen eggs this morning. The roll, hot cross bun and cappuccino is absolutely delicious, but most of all the awesome spirit and vibe of the great folks at Bakehouse South Coogee really made my day, and I will remember these blessed eggs forever.

Sometimes it's the little things in life that can be most profound. I know we're talking about eggs, but to me its representative of so much more.  I'm going to remember these eggs, the cafe and their goodwill forever. Now its back to the sports writing with Hulk Hogan, Ken Shamrock, Titus O'Neil, Jericho, Brian Blair, Lilian Garcia and friends. Shout-out to Don Muraco in Hawaii, who is synonymous with wrestling and surf culture.  The wrestling matches still happen - largely without a live audience at present. The waves still break - without surfers and bodysurfers at the moment. Mother natures ocean beings and creatures have their habitat all to themselves. The ocean creatures are enjoying their playground of paradise without human intervention. Is this just possibly the way the higher power intended it? Why I am recalling the ancient Cree Indian Prophecy “Only when the last tree has been cut down, the last fish been caught, and the last stream poisoned, will we realize we cannot eat money.” It was relevant in the Australian bushfires, but now even more so.  Does any of the global situation have anything to do with the prophecies of Nostradamus?  So many questions. Is the higher power aka God, the answer to everything?

It would be great to hear of everyone's Easter and In These Times stories of goodwill and overcoming the odds. The higher power and goodwill is still everywhere in these times. Cheers to that.
