Win
or lose, featherweight champion Conor McGregor is
poised to become the UFC's first $1 million man when
he steps in the Octagon with Nate Diaz. McGregor and
Diaz headline Saturday's UFC 196 in Las Vegas in a
five-round, welterweight non-title fight.
According
to the disclosed fighter payroll filed with the Nevada
Athletic Commission obtained by ESPNs Brett
Okamoto, the fight will secure McGregor a $1 million
guaranteed purse with no win bonus. It marks the first
time in the promotion's history that it has guaranteed
a fighter $1 million on the disclosed payroll.
McGregor
is, of course, going to net much more than $1 million
for the fight. The disclosed payroll filed with the
athletic commission does not include pay-per-view
percentages, Reebok apparel payouts, sponsorships,
or other fight related income.
McGregor
told CNBC that he would breeze past $10
million for the fight when all was said and done,
but there is no accurate way to verify that number.
His
opponent, Diaz, is guaranteed $500,000, also without
a win bonus.
UFC
women's bantamweight champion Holly Holm is another
fighter on the card with the win bonus off the table.
According to the NAC, Holm is guaranteed $500,000
for putting her belt on the line against Miesha Tate
in the night's co-main event. Tate is slated to make
$46,000 to fight and another $46,000 if she wins.
