For
the fourth-straight weekend, Django Unchained topped
the foreign box office. Thanks to its ongoing strong
business, the movie moved ahead of Inglourious Basterds
to become writer-director Quentin Tarantino's highest-grosser
ever on a worldwide basis.
Tarantino's
revenge "Southern" added $19.5 million from
65 markets this weekend; its top territory was once
again Germany with $3.9 million, and it held first
place for the fourth weekend in a row in France with
$3.3 million. Add its $187.7 million foreign total
with its $154.5 million domestic take and Django has
now earned $342.2 million worldwide, which is ahead
of Inglourious Basterds's $321.5 million.
Wreck-It
Ralph finally reached the U.K. this weekend and took
first place there with $7.1 million. Overall, the
movie added $11.7 million for a new total of $207.5
million, and it's now a few days from passing $400
million worldwide.
Including
a strong $2.3 million first place debut in Australia,
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters grossed $11.7 million
this weekend. To date, the action comedy has made
a solid $83.6 million overseas.
A
week ahead of its U.S. debut, A Good Day to Die Hard
opened to $10.4 million in seven Asian markets. The
biggest one was South Korea with $4.3 million, though
the movie also put up strong numbers in Indonesia
($1.8 million, which is Fox's biggest debut ever),
Hong Kong ($1.3 million), Taiwan ($1.2 million) and
Malaysia ($1 million). The last Die Hard earned over
$250 million overseas in 2007; A Good Day to Die Hard
reaches the U.S. and many other foreign markets this
upcoming weekend.
Steven
Spielberg-directed biopic Lincoln added $10.2 million
this weekend, which includes a decent $1.8 million
start in Australia. The Oscar-nominated domestic blockbuster
has, unsurprisingly, had a quiet foreign run so far
with $47.6 million.
Les
Miserables took in another $10 million from 45 markets
this weekend for a total of $215 million. The movie
opened to $1.7 million in Russia; while that seems
to be on the low-end for Russia, it's actually the
second-best debut ever for a musical. Worldwide, Les
Miserables has earned a very impressive $359.1 million,
and still has openings in France, Germany, Mexico
and China to look forward to.
Nearing
the end of its foreign run, Skyfall passed $1.1 billion
worldwide this weekend; it's the seventh movie ever
to reach that milestone, and the first 2D-only one
since The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
($1.12 billion) did it nine years ago.
