The
creator of US drama Mad Men has been accused of sexual
harassment by a former writer on the show.
Kater
Gordon, who won an Emmy for co-writing an episode
with Weiner, told The Information how the two were
working late one night at the office, when Weiner
allegedly told her she 'owed it to him to let him
see me naked'.
A
spokesperson for the showrunner has responded to the
accusation by saying he does 'not remember' making
the comment and that it 'does not reflect' the way
he deals with colleagues.
'Mr
Weiner spent eight to ten hours a day writing dialogue
aloud with Miss Gordon, who started on Mad Men as
his writers assistant,' the statement reads.
'He
does not remember saying this comment nor does it
reflect a comment he would say to any colleague,'
it adds.
'During
the nine years he was showrunner on Mad Men, Mr Weiner
had a predominantly female driven writers room. He
has long believed in and implemented an egalitarian
working environment including the highest levels of
production and writing based on mutual respect for
all.'
In
the interview, Gordon says she 'froze' when Weiner
allegedly made the proposal, and continued with her
work.
The
pair finished writing the episode and she says nothing
else happened.
After
that, Gordon says she 'lost respect' for the showrunner,
and claims that changed the work environment and made
her 'subdued'.
Weiner
asked her to write another two episodes afterwards,
but eventually fired her and allegedly told her she
had 'fallen short' of expectations.
'He
told me I was terrible at everything, from my work
in the writers room to on set,' she said.
Weiner
is just the latest Hollywood figure to be accused
of sexual harassment, in an industry-wide scandal
which began with the downfall of Harvey Weinstein.
