Expendables
2 stuntman killed in Bulgaria; Follows Australian
stunt Hangover in Bangkok, by Greg Tingle - 30th October
2011
A
fatal accident on the set of the action star-packed
action sequel "The Expendables 2" killed
one stuntman and left another seriously injured Thursday
night, stirring the industry memories of Australian
stunty Scott McLean going into a coma last November
while doing 'The Hangover Part II' near Bangkok, Thailand.
The
Expendables 2 accident occurred while shooting at
the Ognyanovo reservoir in Bulgaria at about 7 p.m.,
when an explosion went off. The injured stunty is
now reportedly in stable condition.
"It
is with great regret that we confirm this unfortunate
accident," a representative for the film's studio,
Nu Image/Millennium Films, said in a statement "Our
hearts go out to the families and those on the production
affected by this tragedy. The filmmakers are working
closely with the authorities in responding to and
investigating this accident."
The
identities of the killed and injured stuntmen have
not yet been released.
The
film's stars, which include Sylvester Stallone, Jean-Claude
Van Damme, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and
Chuck Norris, were not present during the accident.
This
is the most recent tragic accident to occur on an
overseas film set.
The
accident on the set of 'The Hangover Part II in Thailand
saw an oncoming car slid into a truck. Wet weather
that left the roads slick was believed to have played
a significant part in the accident.
Australia's
Media Man agency who has managed and worked with stuntmen
and actors such as Colin Handley, John 'Vulcan' Seru
and Paul 'Maxx-G' Bennett quizzed some of their talent
on the dangers of working in stunts.
Handley,
who also runs Australian Stunt Academy and has worked
with Stallone and Schwarzenegger offered "Safety
is our main priority".
Seru,
also a professional wrestler and gym owner / operator
of 'Gladiators' and 'James Bond' fame said "Working
as a stunt man or as a pro wrestler is extremely dangerous.
Injuries occur more often that people realise".

The
Expendables
The
Expendables is an upcoming 2010 action film directed
and written by Sylvester Stallone and is set for release
in 2010. Filming began on March 28, 2009 in Brazil,
New Orleans and Los Angeles and is expected to be
released on April 23, 2010.
Plot
A
team of mercenaries head to South America on a mission
to stop a dictator who has caused destruction for
the last 20 years. The government sets to plan the
assassination to put an end to the violence.
Production
Production
began on March 3, 2009 and filming has started on
March 28 and will complete in June. Filming locations
include Brazil, Los Angeles, California and New Orleans,
Louisiana.
Casting
Jean-Claude Van Damme was personally offered a role
by Stallone, but turned it down. This reportedly lead
to Dolph Lundgren being cast instead. Kurt Russell
also turned down the role of Mr. Church, the man who
hires the expendables. The role accepted by Forest
Whitaker was originally conceived as a role for Wesley
Snipes but later rewritten for Whitaker. Due to a
scheduling conflict prior to filming, Forest Whitaker
was replaced by Curtis Jackson for the role of Hale
Caesar, who was then in turn replaced by former NFL
player Terry Crews due to negative fan reaction on

Stallone wanted Sandra Bullock to play the role of
Agent Diane Lickson yet Bullock's schedule did not
work with the film, and she could not participate.
Ben Kingsley was offered the role of Monroe before
Eric Roberts was cast. The Role may be combined with
that of Agent Will Sands.
The role of the man who hires the Expendables, Mr.
Church, has been very difficult to cast. Initially
offered to Schwarzenegger, he declined in favor of
a smaller cameo in respects to his political career.
The role was then offered to Kurt Russell whose agent
replied that he was not interested in "Ensemble
acting at the moment." Currently Stallone is
looking covertly to find a big action name to Cameo
as Mr. Church with rumors suggesting that the role
has been offered to friend and fellow former Planet
Hollywood Co-Owner Bruce Willis.

Sylvester Stallone
Sylvester
Gardenzio Stallone (born July 6, 1946), nicknamed
Sly Stallone, is an American actor, director, producer
and screenwriter. One of the biggest box office draws
in the world from the 1970s to the 1990s, Stallone
is an icon of machismo and Hollywood action heroism.
He has played two characters who have become a part
of the American cultural lexicon: Rocky Balboa, the
boxer who overcame all odds to fight for love and
glory, and John Rambo, a courageous soldier who specialized
in very violent rescue and revenge missions.
During the 1980s, he enjoyed phenomenal popularity
and was one of the biggest movie stars in the world
with the Rocky and Rambo franchises. Stallone's culturally
influential films changed pop culture history and
he has largely enjoyed a career on the Hollywood A
list for over 30 years.
Stallone's use of the front entrance to the Philadelphia
Museum of Art in the Rocky series led the area to
be nicknamed the Rocky Steps. His popularity in Philadelphia
has led to a statue of his Rocky character being placed
permanently near the museum as a cultural landmark.
Stallone's film Rocky has also been inducted into
the National Film Registry as well as having its film
props placed in the Smithsonian Museum as a national
treasure.
He is part of the generation of movie action hero
actors (including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude
Van Damme, Bruce Willis, Steven Seagal and sometimes
Mel Gibson) who were featured in many of the Hollywood
blockbuster action films of the late 1980s and 1990s.
