Highlights
from the conversation:
On
whats lacking in modern wrestling: Its
a lack of the old school fundamentals. When I was
trained by the Original Sheik, he was no high flyer.
I had to do his kind of wrestling, which was all about
getting your opponent to the ground, trying to pin
him, trying to pin his shoulders to the mat every
chance we got. I had to learn how to sneak in a backflip
or a spin around that. Thats what made my stuff
more compatible. When I was in All Japan, Stan Hansen
used to give me shit when I was real young. I started
at 22 in All Japan. Stan would see me doing all the
flips and he would give me shit. Before a match, wed
be talking and hed say Well well
let Claude get in there and do all his shit, and then
hell try and tag me in and make it believable
again. He always called me Claude. I got that
kind of a vibe for a while, but then with Stan I was
in the ring with him, and then he realized it wasnt
hold my foot, lets count to three, and
then you throw me, Ill do a backflip out of
your hand like were not working together,
it wasnt like that at all. I shouldered him
the corner, I did a backflip, I ran at him and put
a boot in his face. Afterwards, he told me I gained
his respect. He was like Wow, Ive never
seen that up close before, you were there and then
you disappeared, I didnt know where you went!
Stans always been blind as a bat. I think thats
what makes a difference. You know, these guys grew
up watching me had some of my peers but I didnt
have the old-school mentality drilled into their head
so they just kind like imitated what they thought
it was fun, and then you know the competition of it
is something that I think becomes less and less as
the original foundation of the old boys club
the secret behind the doors the secret society. If
that changes into more of an equal opportunity, work
safe environment, were gonna see the style change.
On
marijuana advocacy and being on the right side of
history: Well, I mean there is some vindication
with it, but I always knew that I was right, so its
not like there was any prize reward for it. I just
knew that eventually, morality would win. As soon
as I started looking into it, you know way back in
36, 37, when they first prohibited marijuana,
it was all based on lies. It was all bullshit and
just that alone should give us enough reason to revisit
it. They had racial intentions to drive Mexicans and
blacks out, and they were the ones that smoked it.
We had William Randolph Hearst losing money on the
paper business, because he had all these trees that
he would make money off of, growing and cutting down
20-year-old trees. Marijuana, hemp, cannabis
if you manipulate the lights, you can grow full crop
in 90 days. Its superior, its better for
the environment to process it. Anyway, I learned that
the reasons that it was prohibited was all so the
rich could get richer. You know, Rockefellers with
fuel, the pharmaceuticals, alcohol and tobacco, they
all spend so many millions of dollars to do campaign
against cannabis, they all stand to lose the money.
They dont get to put the tax money in their
pocket. People think Why dont we legalize
it? We will make money off the revenue. The
1% that Im mentioning that, you know, lobby
against it and really rule the world and prohibit
it, they dont all get your tax money. Some of
the federal reserves, I mean that goes to the bankers
for sure. They are in at that percentage. The more
I looked into it, I just figured morality would definitely
win, everything made sense. Its the most
dangerous drug, Schedule I, by it cant
kill anybody? That was one fact that I just thought,
if I got that out, people were really find that interesting.
On
The War on Drugs and personal choice:
Im not trying to come out and make any
kind of political statement, but one thing Ive
noticed, cause Im an observer thats why
thats what I do and thats how I
notice that Im one of a kind People dont
care that hundreds of thousands of people, every year
just in America, have been imprisoned over a plant.
A plant that grows thats not even toxic, thats
basically almost harmless. The worst part about it
is the law. But for years, hundreds of thousands of
people getting their lives destroyed, their house
is taken, the dogs, the family shot. Sometimes they
get killed. Closing down the businesses, dispensaries.
Besides the fact, you know, that we spend hundreds
of millions to fight it over all these years. People
dont even care about that if it doesnt
affect them. But all of a sudden, theres something
that people could do that could possibly save everybody
from this crisis thats going on, and now people
want to stick up for the rights. People are like Ill
die before I get that jab. I guess thats
your right, its your body, but its not
even theyre afraid of the vaccine, its
the principle. They dont want to fold on someone
telling them that they have to do this thing and its
like, I feel like, you know, pick your battles, you
know? I agree, I dont want to live in a communist
country and shit, but if there is a crisis like this,
like a pandemic, and its got like the highest
reports of deaths and its lowering our life
expectations just because all these bodies being carried
out, and they have something, and they say hey
everyone, everybody has to do it or itll spread.
Is that really the time to stand for it and say, Wait
a minute, I am an individual! So thats
how I feel about that.
On
his love of Mafia history: They had their tentacles
in almost everything thats amazing the people
dont know about it, how much of the country
they had corrupt and how much control they had over
all the unions, and garbage, and restaurants and bars.
So many, and the fact that you know there was like
20, 24 I think, families that were all part of La
Cosa Nostra across the country. They were all like
kind of under the same umbrella of organization, thats
amazing. All that shit fascinates me. More specific,
I like it all, La Cosa Nostra, thats the Italian
one and their associates, but I dont get off
on a tree branch and start going into Russian mafia,
Chinese mafia. For me, I am out on the West Coast,
Ive always been interested in the West Coast.
Theres so much out there about New York. I find
that theres certain stuff from California, Vegas,
thats not as widely available or as known. That
tends to be a little bit more of my favorite. Chicago
controlled everything west of the Mississippi and
thats part of what happened on the West Coast
as well.

News 'They
should move to any other night, get away from us' - Chris Jericho slams WWE with
a bold statement - 4th September 2020
"They
lost! There's nothing wrong with conceiting defeat and moving to a different night."
Chris Jericho had a lot more to say. There
are rumors about WWE possibly moving NXT to a different night. AEW
Dynamite and NXT have aired on different days for the past few weeks. As expected,
the results have been quite positive for both companies. Both shows have drawn
huge numbers without any competition, and there is also talk about NXT possibly
moving out from the Wednesday slot. Chris Jericho, who has always been on the
offensive when it comes to AEW's ratings victories over WWE, has sent another
bold message to the WWE.
During
a recent appearance on the Busted
Open radio show, the Demo God addressed the rumors of WWE contemplating a
change of day for NXT. Chris
Jericho said that he wasn't surprised that the WWE was planning on retreating
from the Wednesday Night Wars. The AEW Superstar sent a direct message to his
former employers that they should move to another night. Chris Jericho felt that
WWE had a great program, and their spiteful tactic of going up against AEW was
only hurting NXT's ratings. Chris
Jericho says WWE should just conceit defeat Chris
Jericho declared that AEW isn't going anywhere and that Dynamite would continue
to beat NXT. Jericho felt that WWE retreating is the right move from a business
standpoint. 'Le Champion' isn't bothered about NXT breaching the 800k or 900k
barriers as he and AEW are focussed on getting over the 1 million mark. He also
spoke about the importance of the 18-49 demographic. Chris
Jericho said that the WWE lost, and there is nothing wrong for them to conceit
defeat. The former AEW World Champion concluded by proclaiming that no one can
stop All Elite Wrestling. Here's
Chris Jericho's full statement on the rumors of WWE moving to another night and
the ongoing ratings war: "Once
again, it was never a war for me. This is a war that was thrust upon us by a company
that is very petty and very spiteful, and we know the reason why NXT was moved
to Wednesday nights. To mess with us. We get it. We pay attention to what we are
doing. We don't care what they're doing, and we have no interest in it. If you
watch us, you get the ratings, where we beat them week after week. We beat them
in the demos where people think it's jokes. The only thing that matters is the
TV networks and advertisers that listed the 18-49 demo. Look it up. We win every
week. They should retreat. They should move to any other night. Get away from
us! You guys got a great program, and it's good; why would you want to sacrifice
your own ratings just to be spiteful and petty to go head to head with AEW? We're
not going anywhere and put on anything you want - we'll continue to beat you.
It is a retreat, but it's also the right move from a business standpoint. Get
your head out of your rear end and just worry about your product the same way
we worry about ours. If they move to Tuesday, smart move. That way, you guys can
get your 850 thousand, 900 thousand. Whatever! Get 10 million viewers. Congratulations!
Let us do our thing, and we'll get over a million. I think it's a smart move business-wise
on theirs. They lost! There's nothing wrong with conceiting defeat, moving to
a different night, and worrying about your show and not worrying about going head
to head with AEW because you can't stop us." H/t WrestlingInc While
Chris Jericho is just doing his job of putting over AEW, many fans would argue
that both shows airing on different nights would be the right decision as they
can watch both shows. The ratings and viewership figures from the past few weeks
have proven that putting out shows on separate days could be ideal for moving
forward. Also,
don't forget to check out the latest interview from Sportskeeda in which our very
own Gary Cassidy caught up with Chris Jericho. The legendary star discussed a
plethora of topics, including the possibility of Brock Lesnar coming to AEW, the
origins of his nickname, Jon Moxley, Orange Cassidy, and much more. *click
