It's
time. Those famous word we heard in Australia all those decades ago. Well, It's
Time again folks, but this time it's time for Australian people and the Australian
government to stand united, as Australia needs to protect Australia (jobs, business,
our culture values - what's left of them). Yep, we need to bring in a bit of gold
old fashioned Donald Trump protectionism, or guess what - the Yanks, India, Pakistan...
anywhere in fact in the world... they will rip out what's left of Australian business
and send it offshore, and we're not just talking about niche sectors like gaming
and sports betting, and sending it off to Gibraltar. Virtually no industry is
safe. Perhaps Australian tourism may be the only sector which is safe from overseas
hands. No,
this is not a science fiction thriller / drama, created by the likes of John Carpenter
(look up 'They Live' (which was banned in some parts of the U.S.). This is real.,
Have you seen how many small and medium size businesses in your region are no
longer? And, note what new business developments pop up in your part of Australia.
They are likely bank branches, new franchise operations, 9 expansion and everyone's
favorite - the Property Developers. Yeah, the Big 4. They have their own version
of a double duopoly if you didn't know it already. It's another version of protectionism. I've
owned an operated a number of businesses in my time and it is very much time that
Australian needs to stand up and keep Australian local and independent businesses
alive and well. Actually, its well past time but in our estimation D Day is coming
up. Don't
get me wrong, I see the benefits in technology advances and such, but companies
competing on price only have it all wrong. Have you noticed how poor the service
is at some places in Australia? It's because the management don't pay well enough
to attract the best staff. Have you seen how poor the quality is of some unnamed
motor vehicles are these days. Quite the opposite of a Roll's Royce, Merc, or
even the way their used to build Valiants. It's all price related. News
media companies will continue to do M&A's this year as they simply have to
in order to service. There's only so many advertising dollars to go around. Look
in your local cafe. Have you seen how much quieter they are in most cases than
at the same time 2 or 3 years ago? This
is not all coincidence. Read on my friends... We
have many friends and associates who run and work for American and European companies,
and they are paid well. The concern is when companies offshore do not pay their
management and staff well, and it has the impact of stealing jobs out of Australia. I
want all Australians to consider the consciences, immediate, short, medium and
long term, if you send business, or a substantial amount of business overseas?
Again, we are the customer of a number of overseas companies, but we are also
a customer of many Australian companies also. Balance is the key. Something we're
sure the Australian government ministers have been told before. It's
ok for the ATO... they are a government department, and as long as they get their
tax from Australian businesses and individuals, and from time to time they get
a sweet payday from the likes of a Google or Facebook, and its business as usual. I
encourage all Australian Chamber of Commerce branch's to discuss Australian jobs
and services vs outsourcing to overseas. Quality vs price has always been concern,
but not so many Australian jobs continue to be at risk, and its likely to get
worse. Did
you notice last year that Network Ten Australia was bought out / bailed out by
U.S giant, CBS, and the Australian shareholders were left out of pocket. This
is a reality of what happens when Australian companies are not protected. Yes,
Donald Trump is onto something with 'Makes America Great Again'. Australian law
and policy makers need to fight back with their own 'Make Australian Great Again'.
Surely celebrated and credible Australian business leaders such as Dick Smith
and perhaps James Packer, Andrew 'Twiggy' Forrest and John 'Singo' Singleton would
support such a campaign. Not so sure that Gina will get behind this one, but we
don't need everyone overnight... just a steady and consistent build until we reach
a critical saturation where the Australian government's hand will be forced To
be continued... *the
writer is an Australian citizen and has conducted business with hundreds of Australian
and international businesses over the past decade plus.
Australian
businessman Dick Smith has always held Aussie culture and values in high regard,
and has fought passionately to do his best for the Australian people and its businesses.
Andrew
'Twiggy' Forrest employs a great many Aboriginal Australians. Would Twiggy get
behind a campaign such as 'Make Australian Great Again'?
Last
year Gerry Harvey (Harvey Norman) made an impressive appearance on the ABC's Gruen
television program in relation to Amazon's impending arrival onto Australian shores,
and how he plans to combat this. Care to join Team Harvey Norman?
