Dwayne
'The Rock' Johnson in one of the very best sports
and life themed interviews of all time!
Ups
and downs of life, wrestling, sports, movie project
on the life and career of UFC legend Mark Kerr
Dwayne
The Rock Johnson joins Ariel Helwani to
discuss what it was like to walk out in front of the
crowd at Madison Square Garden for UFC 244: Jorge
Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz. (6:14) Johnson says he was
surprised by the stoppage, but understands the doctors
concerns over the cuts around Diazs eye. (8:40)
Johnson also shares the advice he gave Masvidal and
how impressed he is with Masvidals character
and fighting style. (11:50) The Rock later discusses
his upcoming film project, where he will play UFC
fighter Mark Kerr, and explains how much the role
means to him.
Notes
During
an appearance on Ariel
Helwani's MMA Show on Monday, the celebrity superstar
told Masvidal to "take advantage" of his
victory over Diaz and continue to work hard.
The
Rock explained: "I congratulated him, of course,
and I talked to him about what this opportunity meant
and how this BMF title that is somewhat polarising
in the sport of MMA -- some guys were behind it and
some guys weren't -- but again, this is this unique
experience that kind of transcends weight divisions
and the sport because it has such street cred.
"There's
incredible champions who are incredibly disciplined
and skilled in multiple disciplines of MMA, and then
there's the BMFs. So I was very happy for Jorge...
"So
I reminded him what an incredible opportunity this
is and to take advantage of it and continue to work
hard as, of course, he is going to do.
"And
also, he's got a sharp wit about him which makes him
very likable.
"He
loves to talk s**t, as we all do down in Miami, but
he also has a cool, sharp, smart wit about him and
he's got his head in the right place, and his head
being in the right place is wanting to do everything
he can to impact his own bottom line, impact the company's
bottom line, which will in turn generate more income
for himself and the fighters.
"So
he's really making sure that his value is realised."

Dwayne
Johnson talks to Variety about Mark Kerr UFC / MMA
movie project; Quotes
Mark
Kerrs story is such an incredible story. Like
all of us, and like a lot of these fighters, he battled
these demons these demons of addiction, these
demons of mental health, these demons of getting out
and the pressure of fighting in front of 50,000 people
and what that does to somebody. Heres a guy
who has gone through it all, hit rock bottom, but
the best part about Mark Kerr is that, like all of
us in this room and all these fighters, these warriors,
is that everyday, we get up and we want to do a little
bit better tomorrow than we did today.
Hes
overwhelmed that this is happening, and I love that
he trusts me with his life and with his story.
Its
a dramatic role, but Mark lives a dramatic life. Its
an opportunity to shine a light on one of our warriors,
who not only deserves it, but who has such universal
appeal and a universal story.
The
guy was a beast and he was dominant and there was
only one like him at that time. When you think about
these fighters, there is no other sport like MMA
the multiple disciplines and the pressure and the
fact that you put your life on the line, literally,
every time you step in the cage and if you
dig a little deeper than the physicality that they
have, theres a real character of depth to a
lot of these warriors, and Mark is one of them.
